“We plan to have have additional game modes and content, in addition to the bug fixes, polish, and other features added through development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version? “We plan on getting out of early access by the end of the year. The Early Access process is crucial to shaping the final game.”Īpproximately how long will this game be in Early Access? They should just make it a Ray Tracing toggle and include the same disclaimer that it already has.“We use Early Access to gauge input from the community on difficulty, feature set, balance, and quality of life issues. It’s really weird that they call it “Performance” and “Quality” seeing as they both maintain the same frame rate (60 with some drops to 59). I think I prefer the Ray Tracing mode, but they are pretty similar. I actually wanted to try the subscription since I have some MS Rewards to burn, but it won’t connect to the game servers. I don’t have too many tables in the old version, so I’m not as affected by their boneheaded decision. The new one has some of the most impressive HDR I’ve seen outside of Tetris Effect, going from that to AutoHDR felt like my eyes were under assault.

The animation, physics, frame pacing, lighting, resolution, pretty much everything is so much better at least for the Xbox version.Įven without all of that, the biggest reason I could never go back is the native HDR vs AutoHDR difference.

I think the new version is a wayyyyy bigger upgrade than people are giving it credit for. The difference in quality was actually pretty shocking! On a whim I loaded up FX3 to compare and it turned out that I had already purchased Pasha, which was actually the table I spent the most time on in the new version. I didn’t experience any noticeable performance issues or input lag, and I played just about every table.

I did the tutorial to get the free 24 hour pass and I ended up playing it all night. Right after I posted this, I was finally able to connect to the servers. I say, give the Secrets & Shadows pack a purchase as those three are all new tables and all consistently good, then just stick to FX3. Overall, I really like the new tables, but I feel the reboot drastically downgrades the older originals to the point where they're just not worth the money Zen is asking for. It felt like since FX3 a lot of the tables have become a bit simpler in depth, though they are arguably more balanced rules-wise than they were in FX3. Some I absolutely love (Pinball Noir is easily my new favorite Zen original, Brothers in Arms is frustrating but in the best possible way), others I'm not the biggest fan of. Likely just going to stick to FX3 for older tables. The old tables (as in, from FX3 and earlier) don't play as good as they used to IMO? Wild West Rampage in particular felt way off from how it usually plays, as one of my favorite Zen originals - the ball felt heavy here, and I struggled heavily with the upper flipper. There's always a chance for it to improve though. I think they went a little overboard with the whole "this is a GAAS pinball game, you should be able to customize it!" idea when in FX3, you didn't have any of that stuff and it was still a solid UI. If they never bring Play Anywhere back, I'll probably mostly just wait for heavy discounts, and reluctantly buy discounted packs here and there. Bring that back, and I would highly consider going all-in with this, and even buying many at full price. The last weak thing though, is the removal of Play Anywhere from the Xbox tables. That boycott has left me feeling better about buying tables for this new iteration. Luckily, I've been boycotting buying tables for Pinvall FX3 ever since I saw this announced. At least they have some form of Ray Tracing on console, and the new ball physics are definitely a huge step up. If the tables also received a complete new-gen visual makeover, it would feel more acceptable. It's totally acceptable, but I'm surprised they need multiples modes at all considering these tables are generally just seeming using the same geometry and assets as Pinball FX3 and earlier.Ĭharging full price to "rebuy" tables is just straight up bullshit, and seems like a cynical cash grab for what you get.

Performance seems kind of poorer than expected on Series X quality mode. Otherwise, this seems like a mixed bag and a heap of cynical cash grab.

Much closer to Pinball Arcade's tables (I never tried Pro Mode in Pinball DX3) for the Wialliams tables. But it seems like the tables overall play better. The ball has a real knack for finding unreachable spaces and you can easily sink three balls. My impressions of the new ball physics are positive. I'm enjoying playing through the trials on this so far.
